Led by the exceptional and charismatic Australian concert pianist, Kathryn Selby, 2011 will mark Selby & Friends' 5th season and it is one in which she has invited a group of artists amongst this country's finest who will focus on extraordinary music for the small ensemble. With seasons described as "full of gems" and performances "to be treasured", Ms Selby has put together programs which will reflect not only icons of the repertoire, but some unusually beautiful, seldom heard works by legendary composers and some thrilling favourites by great Australians.
The 2011 national season is one full to the brim with the extraordinary quality you have come to expect. Selby & Friends creates a relaxed and intimate atmosphere in which the music crafts a personal experience both highly individual and one enthusiastically to be shared - filled with colour, exquisite beauty, quiet reflection and often a chill down the spine! We warmly welcome violin virtuoso Natsuko Yoshimoto, ASO concertmaster, former ASQ and Grainger Quartet leader, and popular SSO violist Yvette Goodchild. Cellist Emma-Jane Murphy teams up with Kathryn Selby in a program of favourite cello/piano sonatas and duos and TRIOZ returns to explore more of the expansive trio repertoire.
The Ambassador program in 2010 proved most popular so it is presented again in 2011 along with the offer of special gifts - free tickets, complimentary programs and even a full season on us! And as Selby & Friends is committed to commissioning new works and the development of an audience for the future, we have implemented two special new programs - please see the information page for more details. Please join Selby & Friends in 2011 as we present once again a wonderful variety of music, stunning performances and the simple pleasure of having great fun at a concert. We look forward to welcoming you!
