Tour 3, 2015 - The Czech Connection

Tour 3 4

Kathryn Selby presents The Czech Connection with the next installment of her ever-popular ‘friends’ series

Andrew Haveron–violin | Timo-Veikko Valve–cello | Kathryn Selby–piano

May 30 - June 7, 2015

Schubert Notturno in E flat major, Op. 148, D. 897

Martinů  Duo No. 1 for Violin and Cello, H. 157

Mendelssohn Piano Trio No. 1 in D minor, Op. 49

Dvořák  Piano Trio in F minor, Op. 65

In late May/early June, Selby & Friends will once again present superb musicians in a concert of chamber music favorites.

For the third concert of the 2015 Selby & Friends series, Artistic Director Kathryn Selby AM will tour with stellar Sydney-based colleagues Andrew Haveron, (Co-Concertmaster of the Sydney Symphony), and Timo-Veikko Valve (Principal Cello, Australian Chamber Orchestra).

The program will bring the three artists together in three great piano trios, beloved cornerstones of the genre - Schubert’s ever-popular Notturno, Mendelssohn’s inimitable first piano trio and Dvořák’s last.

Andrew Haveron and Timo-Veikko Valve will also combine for Martinů’s dazzling Duo No. 1 for Violin and Cello.  Audiences can look forward to hearing this rarely programmed, virtuosic work (written in 1927 for two musician friends of the composer) that gives each soloist a brilliant cadenza that fully exploits the technical possibilities of the two instruments!

It is a testimony to the skill of Artistic Director and pianist Kathryn Selby that concerts in the Selby & Friends series are frequently sold out.  The popularity and talent of the musicians she brings together alongside her varied and intelligent programming guarantee that regular and devoted audiences of the series are delighted, challenged and satisfied at every turn.

In 2016 Selby & Friends celebrates its 10th Anniversary - a decade in which it has established itself as the high water mark in chamber music presentation, programming and performance.
